Thoughts

In 1973-1974 Aunt Lorna took in another Canadian waif in the form of her cousin Marie's daughter, me! She treated me with the utmost kindness and welcomed me as family on arrival, at Christmas and when my British sojourn was ending. I have never been treated so kindly and reassured that I could always call in. I was hugely pleased to have a visit just a few years ago and to see her in Canada when she ventured to the wilds of the colony. I will never forget her affection and the real feeling that she was my English Mum and I will miss her. I am pretty happy to have two cousins in England who have inherited her generosity of spirit so I still feel there is family any time I may be able to visit. Hugs!

You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left Your heart can be empty because you can't see her Or you can be full of the love you shared You can turn your back on tomorrow and live for yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday You can remember her and only that she is gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on You can cry, close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what Lorna would want - Smile, open your eyes, love and go on

Pop - Lorna's father inscribed this quotation at the entrance to their garden in Canterbury and it can also be found in the gardens at Abbots Leigh Nursing Home where Lorna spent the last 3 years of her life. "The kiss of the sun for pardon, The song of the birds for mirth, One is nearer God's heart in a garden, Than anywhere else on earth"
